October brings us the energies of Berkana, which represents growth and rebirth (recovery). This is a gentle transformation, though “penetrating and pervasive.” Whereas over the summer, we had some big energy downloads with some sudden effects on our moods and physical bodies, this month’s changes will be more subtle. If you have managed to keep your wits about you in the past few months and have kept moving steadily forward—well, steadily, and with intention—you should begin to see some changes and growth in your life this month.

Don’t lose hope if you felt you weren’t able to move steadily over the summer, because the energy of October allows for us to begin making those changes now if we couldn’t previously. If you find yourself experiencing resistance to the growth, work on accepting that change happens whether you are ready for it or not. If there is darkness inside of you that you are not comfortable with, this is the perfect month to do shadow work, so you can begin incorporating your shadow and light into a cohesive whole, learning and growing from both of these aspects of yourself.

Although Berkana’s message carries with it the seeds of knowledge of how to most benefit from growth energies, the Archangel Raphael Healing Oracle Cards shed a bit more light on this. October’s energies provide us the opportunity for recovery, which is itself a type of growth (rebirth). If you suffer from an addiction or another type of illness, the energies of this month will be particularly supportive to your recovery, provided you are putting in effort toward that recovery.

Here’s a prayer to help us keep this goal—and our responsibilities in it—in mind:

Thank you, God, angels, and guides, for helping me and supporting me in this time of growth and recovery. On days when I am resistant, please help me to remember that change occurs whether I will it or no, and that only by accepting this fact can I look at the situation with clear judgment to recognize how to adapt my behaviors and responses so I can grow and heal rather than be stuck in the shadow of the past. On days when I am growing in the sunshine of health and recovery, please help me to spread that sunshine to others. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
