A few years ago in my daily meditations, I kept hearing Spirit command me, “Step into your power!” (Anyone who had “heard” the words and felt the energetic push that accompanied them would know that it was, indeed, a command, like an exasperated parent saying to their dawdling child, “Enough questions about what school is like; just get in the effing car already so you can actually get to school!”)

I held off at first,  confused because I thought I had stepped into my power by owning my intuitive abilities and thus also unsure how I could step into my power if I hadn’t already. This was around the time that I had started on personal development a la The Miracle Morning. So each morning in my scribing time, I wrote in my journal, trying to puzzle out the command. And in my silent time, I meditated to try to find just where the center of my power was. The more I did this, continuing to I worked on my personal development, the more—and more clearly—I heard the promptings of my intuition. And following those promptings led me further into stepping into my power.

It turns out that you don’t simply step into your power with one motion and find yourself arrived in full possession of your full power. You step into your power, and you’re fully in the center of your power…but then your field of power expands, so you have to take more steps to get to the new center of your power. Once you arrive there, you think you’re done, you’re right smack-dab in the middle of your power, right? Nope, because once you get there, your power expands again, and you have to once again travel to get to the center of it. It’s basically a never-ending process of forever stepping toward the center of your power. Another way to think of it is stepping onto a spiraling path. You think it’s simply a two-dimensional spiral and you will eventually get to the center, but no, it keeps moving upward, so you’re constantly climbing and never quite reach the pinnacle.

The years since I finally began acting on that command (it took a few repetitions) have been interesting, to say the least. Following those promptings of my intuitive power, I became a student of Slade Roberson’s Automatic Intuition course and became a professional intuitive, offering my services to others. Then I began studying Reiki and devoted myself wholeheartedly to learning its principles and spreading the incredible healing and energetic experiences that it provides.

I thought I was done there, but then I felt the prompting to learn about crystals and crystal Reiki. Again, I jumped in wholeheartedly. Once I earned my certification, I thought I was done with the new development. A long-time acquaintance showed up in my life around that time and was fully supportive of my Reiki business, even offering me a place in her massage therapy practice, to offer Reiki as a complementary therapy, so I thought that was where I was going to be focused from here forward.

At the same time, a friend introduced another opportunity into my life: network marketing. I turned away from it, as my experiences with network marketing in the past had turned me off, and I stayed “turned away” over the next several months.

My husband and I are both self-employed, and although I have several clients across several aspects of business, my main financial client has been facing some challenges that have made our income unsteady. My husband and I spent years working any job that paid us, especially when money was tight, but we had finally learned that some jobs simply did not pay enough to be worth the effort, and we have “fired” some of our clients. And we learned how to “chase down” money from those who owed us, and how to leverage our positions to get ourselves paid. This is a challenge, and I sometimes given in to despair and begin to lose faith in our ability to support ourselves and our children. At those times, it usually takes me a few days before I remember to ask the Universe for help. A few weeks ago, after another encounter with this despair, I finally remembered to ask Spirit for help. I asked for help in recognizing the next step(s) on our path that would lead to our highest good, and for help in recognizing when to take action, and what action to take (even if that action is waiting and watching).

Once I began praying this prayer regularly, my friend who had become involved in network marketing a few months ago began talking more and more of how he enjoyed this company the longer he worked with them. I once again felt promptings from Spirit via my intuition, so I started to actually research the company and its products, and I decided that the company and products are different from the network marketing companies of my previous experiences. But my rational mind and my fears told me over and over again that this was not the time to start on a new venture, that I didn’t have enough money to invest in a new venture, that I didn’t have enough time to invest in a new venture, and so on.

I sat with these fears and thoughts, and I continued to pray to recognize my next step and when to take that next step. And then the day arrived when I felt the intuitive promptings to act and to join the network marketing company—to start small, but to start and to move slowly and steadily forward, at my own pace. I became an affiliate with the network marketing company, and within twelve hours, I was panicked and once again feeling like a failure, worrying that I had imperiled my family by making a foolish choice, despairing that I had added even more to my to-do list, which was already completely overwhelming. Ah, fear.
So I once again sat with the feelings, I poured out my worries to Spirit, and then I reminded myself of my overall goals, and I asked again to be shown my next step and what action to take, whether it was to back out of this venture or to keep going. The next morning, I awoke with fresh understanding: The products offered by this company support the holistic life that I aspire in every moment to live, and I now understand that this makes them a perfect match for my overall goal of helping people and the world to become healthier and happier. Rather than being another venture, then, it’s really an additional aspect of my overall “brand,” which includes me being an intuitive counselor, a Reiki practitioner—and even an editor, given that I prefer to work on texts that are meant to help improve people and the world. Clear timelines also had been “dropped” fully formed into my consciousness: Do this at this time, then once that’s under control, take that step, then move in this direction—and above all, keep checking in.

So far, the response to this new facet of my overall venture has been very positive, and much larger than I had anticipated. I still worry and I still fear, because I am human, after all. But I have finally (once and for all, I hope) learned that my “brand” will never stop developing new facets so long as I am walking forward on that path of self-improvement and personal development. So long as I am trying always to step into my power, my capabilities will keep expanding and I and my business will continue to change. Some things will fall away as new things are added, but so long as I am putting honest effort into improving—and so long as I keep asking for help in recognizing where those efforts should be placed—I will improve and my power (over myself, at least) will grow. It will NOT always be easy, but I WILL always be supported.
