Although I often mention my Miracle Morning and discuss it freely in my blog posts, I realized last week that although I have gone into detail in blog posts and podcasts about various aspects of how I do the Life SAVERS, I haven’t discussed the A—affirmations—in much detail.
The Evolution of My Affirmations
I think this is because I have modified my affirmations so frequently. When I first began doing my Miracle Morning, I had no idea at all how to use affirmations. I had no idea how to phrase them. I had pages of them. Rather than help me feel and stay focused on my tasks, they were so dull that I frequently drifted off while reading them. I could say that was maybe because I still hadn’t figured out my sleep hygiene yet (it was before I had found the book Sleep Smarter), but truly, they were long and boring.
The more I have used affirmations in the past 4 years, however, and the more I have read about affirmations, the better I’ve gotten at crafting them. I use some of them for a long time, for long-term goals, and change some out far more frequently, based on whatever short-term projects I’m handling. A few never change, because they are overall guidance for living, and some change very rarely because they are helping me change long-formed and sometimes unconscious habits that take a lot of effort to mold more positively.
My current affirmations take me about 4 minutes to recite, visualize, and feel, and I find that adequate for my daily routine, not too short and not too long. I have lifted a few of them wholesale from other people, borrowed and modified a few more, and crafted a couple of my own (the more clumsy ones). I’m sure several of them—especially the ones I’ve crafted myself—don’t follow the “rules” for the best, most effective affirmations, but they sure work for me.
I’m not here to offer advice on how you can craft your own affirmations. There is plenty of guidance out there already for that (in the book The Miracle Morning, for example). Instead, I’m sharing with you my current affirmations, sometimes with a note or two about how or why I crafted them. I’ve been using some of these for the better part of a year, and some for only a couple of months. I also include a monthly prayer, based on the energy preview I do every month. I add the monthly prayer to the end of my daily affirmations because it serves the dual purpose of an affirmation, keeping my focus on how to work best within the prevailing energy of the month.
My Current Affirmations
Please feel free to use any of these as they are or to modify them for your own uses!
I intend that money come to me continually, in increasing quantities, from multiple sources.
This one was crafted back when my editing was my family’s primary source of income and my clients were closing and also not paying me consistently. I feel like I’m almost ready to retire this one.
I intend that 2020 be a year of holistic thriving for me and my family.
On days I have a hard time feeling and visualizing this outcome, I might add something like “as individuals and as a whole—emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally, financially, academically, and professionally.”
I intend to experience a harmonious lifestyle. I intend to experience health and energy that lead me to creative adventures. I intend that I be well provided for, that shelter and food and all of the things I need to experience life be given to me in great abundance, and that I pass this great abundance on and share it with others.
I lifted this almost wholesale from one of Barbara Marciniak’s Pleiadian books, if I recall correctly. I love it because it reminds me that I am not 100% responsible for finding and bringing in “shelter and food and all of the things I need to experience life.” The passivity in these phrases reminds me that we are cocreators and that we have to put in effort (yang energy) to demonstrate our desires but also must, for best results, stay receptive to gifts and opportunities (yin energy) that we might otherwise reject because we can’t immediately see how they bring us things in the way we have been trained to obtain them (work hard, work long, get paid, buy things, repeat). Essentially, it’s a reminder to do our part and remember that we aren’t in control of everything. In other words, relax and don’t get too focused on outcomes happening in a certain way. After all, so far in my life, I have always had food and shelter and all the things I need to experience life, in some form or another.
I intend to consume only food and drink that nourish my body and soul.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and to every living thing.
Until very recently, I had been reciting these Reiki precepts in my own way, which I’ve discussed in earlier blog posts, but I’ve gone back to the more traditional phrasing to see if they are more helpful to me now that I’ve more fully immersed myself in my Reiki practice again.
As turbulence appears in my life, I search for the love present in all circumstances. From this perspective, I view the way of positive resolution.
This was a big one for me when I was helping a major client wrap up operations after it declared bankruptcy—I was dealing with lots of angry vendors and clients every day, and this affirmation helped me keep perspective and stay civil to people who hurled insults at me in their anger and frustration.
I have the power within myself to accomplish whatever I wish. I have the necessary tools at my disposal.
A few months ago, I was feeling very disheartened and disempowered, trapped, and this one has helped me find my way through to my own reempowerment, remembering that many options exist, if I’m willing to see them.
Building my business isn’t only about me and what I want; it is especially about connecting with my clients and prospective clients by finding out what’s important to them and then matching my products and opportunities to meet their needs.
I leave every person I speak to better than I found them, because I genuinely care about what is happening in their lives. Whether they choose to work with me or not, they are glad they spoke to me!
My vision: We have zero debt, and we have more than a million dollars in assets, earning us more and working for us. We have easily covered the cost of our son’s preschool. I am at my natural ideal physically and mentally, and at my full confidence and power. I am excited about what I do, and my enthusiasm draws others to work with me, so my team, client list, and income grow steadily.
I actually start reciting this one with “My vision is that …” because it helps me remember that these are big goals that I may have to work toward for a long time, in addition to the daily work toward them. Basically, it’s a way to remind myself to “gird my loins” because this is for the long haul.
In every moment, I find the best balance of mentor, mentee, and businesswoman, and of spouse, mother, and individual.
[Prayer for August 2020:] Dear God and Archangel Raphael, thank you for the opportunity for recovery. Although I have been through many challenges and continue to face them, please help me to recognize the opportunities present in these challenges so I may begin to improve my own life and the lives of others. Thank you for guiding me to the people who will provide me the guidance I need, who will provide me the extra support and strength I need, and to those whom I can do the same for, so we can all lean against and on each other in these times. Thank you for helping me to find the light at the end of this tunnel, of hope, and for helping me find the strength to keep moving forward even when I backslide. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.
Please tell me how affirmations have worked (or not) for you. Do you have any favorite affirmations? If so, have you crafted them yourself or recrafted someone else’s, or even lifted them wholesale from someone else?
