The runes bring our message for January. We are given two runes to describe the energies of January: Othila (Separation, Retreat, Inheritance) and Mannaz (the Self).

We are being called this month to step more fully into ourselves (inheritance), but only if we are willing to let go (separation) of some part of our old selves.

We must focus on having a true relationship with ourselves, bettering the Self, by releasing those things that no longer serve us or help us. These may be physical possessions (especially those that affect our behaviors and personalities in ways that we have outgrown), in addition to outmoded or unhealthy relationships, or even parts of our selves.

The Book of Runes reminds us, “Strive to live the ordinary life in a nonordinary way.” This month can be a time of major growth, but for that to happen, we must mind ourselves and rectify what is “wrong”—that is, what is out of balance in our lives, especially within ourselves.

The Archangel Raphael Healing Oracle Cards tell us that the best way to achieve our goals of shedding our old skin and inheriting higher forms of ourselves is to give our cares to God and the angels, actively working on releasing our worries to the Divine hand.

Here’s a prayer to help us best use these energies to our advantage this month:

Dear God and Archangel Raphael, I am willing to release any fears to you. Just for today, I let go of worry. I remain receptive to the guidance you offer in this situation, and I allow it to flow into me from You. Help me to remember at all times what is coming to be and what is passing away, and to focus on that which abides, which is my highest self. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
