The energy of May is symbolized for us in the Lakota Sweat Lodge card Chanli Wapakta, or Prayer Ties. In Lakota culture, when someone creates a prayer tie, that person is creating and offering a prayer for someone else’s benefit, rather like a Catholic lighting a prayer candle. This is a time for us to pray for everyone and everything, because we are all related. This is also a time to offer thanks for all of our blessings and to enhance our social consciousness.

As the creators of the cards indicated, “It is time to shift our attention from our own concerns to what we can do for humanity. … Send healing energy into the world. … Find an activity that will give you the opportunity to experience joy while doing something useful [to the world]. … Create joy by giving without expectation. Rewards will be gained by those who serve.”

The Archangel Raphael Healing Oracle cards tell us the best way for us to both benefit from and utilize this energy is to focus on our relationships. Working on our relationships, especially with ourselves, helps us to improve our own lives. And the best way to help others is, in fact, to improve ourselves. This month, we can improve ourselves—and thus help others—with and through prayer. Praying for others acts something like a feedback loop, putting us in a mindset of service and of social consciousness, thus enabling us to further see how we can help, more things we can pray for, and more things we can do to bring about the world we desire for ourselves and others, even as we may still be “alone together.”

Dear God and Archangel Raphael, I offer a prayer for my brother, my siste,r my mother, my father, my daughter, my son, my grandparents, my spouse. I offer prayers for all who dwell uon this planet, whether animal [on four legs], bird, fish, vegetation, or the earth itself. I offer prayers for all, for we are all intertwined.
